This paper presents recent findings regarding costs and cost-effectiveness of AIDS prevention, treatment and care interventions, which can be used to inform a long-term strategic response to the epidemic.
The paper updates the chapter on HIV/AIDS Prevention and Treatment in the 2006 Disease Control Priorities in Developing Countries (DCP). In the three years following the publication of that chapter, 21 additional studies of cost-effectiveness of HIV prevention interventions were produced, including studies containing new data on male circumcision and structural interventions. There has also been a significant increase in studies on the cost-effectiveness of anti-retroviral treatment, even though analysis of other areas of treatment and care remains very limited.
