Caitlin Purdy

Senior Program Officer

Caitlin Purdy is the senior program officer for the Leveraging Transparency to Reduce Corruption initiative, a collaboration between R4D and the Brookings Institution. She manages the initiative’s country programs.

As an international development professional, Ms. Purdy is focused on natural resource governance and management. Her areas of interest and expertise include shared value initiatives, artisanal and small-scale mining, fiscal regimes for extractive industries, transparency and accountability around social and environmental impacts, and the role of critical minerals in the clean energy transition. She is an experienced project manager who has worked extensively in Latin America.

Ms. Purdy is interested in how to more equitably and impactfully distribute natural resource revenues. She has recently written on how automation and rising inequality threaten to undermine local economic benefits, as well as on the post-pandemic politics of natural resource development in Latin America.

Before joining R4D, Ms. Purdy was a senior associate at Critical Resource where she led assessments and management of political and stakeholder challenges for mining and oil and gas companies and private equity firm in over twenty jurisdictions globally, with a particular focus on Latin America. This included undertaking ESG risk assessments, gathering political intelligence and leading geostrategic analysis, developing sustainability strategies, designing stakeholder engagement plans and communications materials, and leading research on artisanal and small-scale mining. She also worked as an editor and translator.

Ms. Purdy has a master’s degree in Global Politics from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a master’s degree in Hispanic Literatures from Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Peru. She is a native speaker of English and also speaks Spanish.
