Simbiat Lawal is a public health practitioner with a track record in health financing, mobilizing, management strategies and health systems strengthening. As a program officer at Results for Development (R4D), she supports the Federal Government of Nigeria to establish, strengthen and sustain healthcare financing reforms by providing technical assistance to the health budget process.
Working on universal health coverage for Nigeria since the start of her career, she has supported reforms such as the development of an investment case and resource mobilization strategy for the Lagos State Ministry of Health (LsMOH) while strengthening resilient systems for health through capacity building and fostering of public-private partnerships. She also supported the development and initial operationalization of the Lagos State Health Scheme (LSHS).
Before joining R4D, Ms. Lawal was a public health officer at the LsMOH where she worked on health financing and sustainable systems for health under the global fund grant. She also volunteered with Home Fundraising UK, where she helped to raise funds for organizations to provide better access to healthcare services in developing countries.
Ms. Lawal has an MPH from the University of Sheffield and a bachelor’s in human anatomy from Igbinedion University. She also has a certificate of achievement in health systems strengthening from the University of Melbourne. She is fluent in Yoruba, her native language, and in English.
