Hemovigilance and blood transfusion challenges in low- and middle-income countries

Hemovigilance encompasses surveillance throughout the blood transfusion process — from blood collection to recipient follow-up — in order to identify and prevent adverse effects associated with transfusing blood products. This brief highlights challenges with developing comprehensive hemovigilance systems in low- and middle-income countries, shares best practices and innovations, and provides recommendations.
