4th Global Noncommunicable Diseases (NCD) Alliance Forum

The 4th Global NCD Alliance Forum will take place February 13-15, 2025 in Kigali, Rwanda. The convening offers a pivotal moment to strengthen the noncommunicable diseases (NCD) movement as we look toward the United Nations High-Level Meeting on NCDs in September 2025.

As the first NCD Alliance forum to be held in Sub-Saharan Africa, it will focus on three key themes:

  1. Inspiring leadership to advance health policies
  2. Mobilizing sustainable financing
  3. Empowering communities

R4D experts Leah Ewald, Amanda Folsom and Maria Jose Pastor will participate in the following sessions:

1. Leadership on non-communicable diseases towards 2025 and beyond

This regional dialogue session will introduce the FAN and the regional NCD Financing Accelerator for Sub-Saharan Africa, a network managed by R4D, to a targeted audience of country-based and regional government officials, stakeholders, and partners.

This session aims to generate interest in country engagement with FAN, share key findings from FAN’s Sub-Saharan Africa NCD financing landscape analysis, and set a FAN’s NCD financing cross-country learning agenda for the region. It will provide a forum for small, focused discussions regarding the significant challenges and priorities related to NCD financing in Sub-Saharan Africa, helping to inform FAN’s future initiatives.

  • Date: Wednesday, February 12, 2025
  • Time: 2-5 p.m.
  • Location: Kigali Convention Center, Room AD 1

This session is co-organized by Access Accelerated, the World Bank, and the African Institute for Development Policy (AFIDEP).

2. Gaps and opportunities in noncommunicable diseases financing in Sub-Saharan Africa: Transforming insights into impact

Join us for a solutions-focused discussion on advancing health financing for noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) in low- and middle-income countries. This session will explore critical gaps, opportunities, and actionable strategies to strengthen NCD financing in Africa and beyond.

Hosted by Access Accelerated in collaboration with the World Bank, Results for Development (R4D), and the African Institute for Development Policy (AFIDEP), the event will present findings from the NCD Financing Landscape analysis for Sub-Saharan Africa. A panel of experts will delve into these insights, highlighting innovative approaches and practical solutions to tackle the financing challenges identified across the region. The discussion will also spotlight the role of regional accelerators and the Financing Accelerator Network for NCDs (FAN)—a new initiative by Access Accelerated and the World Bank, in partnership with R4D, aimed at building sustainable health financing systems for NCDs.

As the global health community prepares for the 2025 UN High-Level Meeting on NCDs, this session provides a valuable platform to engage with leading health financing experts. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of Africa’s NCD financing landscape and explore scalable solutions to drive meaningful advocacy and action.

  • Date: Saturday, February 15, 2025
  • Time: 10:15-11:30 a.m.
  • Location: Kigali Convention Center, Room AD 12
