Katie Bowman

Associate Director

Katie Bowman is an Associate Director at Results for Development (R4D) within the Evaluation & Adaptive Learning Practice. Katie brings over 10 years of experience working at the intersection of systems thinking, innovation, and research for social change. In her role at R4D, Katie previously directed the USAID-funded Rapid Feedback MERL (Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning) Program, which leveraged experimentation and lean research methodologies to provide decision-makers with the timely evidence needed to adapt their programs for maximized impact.

Katie currently advises teams to co-design and deliver complexity-aware, context-informed, and data-driven programs with R4D partners around the world. With a goal of sustainable capacity strengthening, Katie collaborates with global and local actors (e.g., funders, government, civil society) through a learning-by-doing approach that utilizes participatory tools/methods to address complex social issues. In addition, Katie leads organizational change initiatives such as R4D’s internal Learning & Results initiative, which is focused on 1) developing and testing approaches for measuring R4D’s contributions toward system-level outcomes; and 2) facilitating learning for organizational improvement and strategy evolution.

Katie received her Master of International Affairs degree from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA), where she focused on human rights and international development. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree with high distinction from the University of Virginia, where she graduated with a dual degree in French and Foreign Affairs.
