Open Government Partnership 2019 Global Summit

The 2019 Open Government Partnership Global Summit will host participants from regional governments, civil society groups, multilateral organizations, academia and more to discuss ways to leverage open government initiatives and tools to build stronger, more accountable and more responsive democracies. In their roles as Chairs of the OGP Steering Committee, the Government of Canada and Results for Development Executive Vice President Nathaniel Heller call on OGP governments and civil society to view the Summit as an opportunity to deliver concrete actions addressing the summit’s key themes and focal areas: gender and inclusion, civic space, and strengthening democratic governance in the digital age.

Mr. Heller and other R4D colleagues, including Courtney Tolmie, Allison Merchant and Preston Whitt, will be participating in the following events and activities:

This interactive, day-long side event to the OGP Global Summit will bring together gender experts, governments, and open government actors.

Nathaniel will deliver welcome remarks, followed by an armchair conversation between Liz Plank and the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau. The opening ceremony will be followed by a welcome reception in the Shaw Centre.

Allison will be a facilitator for a workshop on how to advance Open Government Partnership commitments aimed at fighting corruption through a gender perspective.

Pitfalls and Bright Spots: Crowdsourcing and Validating Why Social Accountability Designs Succeed and Fail

Courtney and Preston will be facilitators for a workshop aimed at developing set of recommendations for future adaptive evaluations to increase knowledge and evidence of “what works” in social accountability.

Open Government and Women’s Rights: Synergies and Opportunities to Advance Both Agendas

Allison will moderate a lightning talk to share approaches and lessons learned on both how open government approaches can help to strengthen women’s rights and how engaging women’s rights organizations can help to advance open government objectives.
