Senior Program Associate

Rachel Gates Gessel is a rising global health professional with a focus on health financing, collaborative learning and health systems strengthening.

At Results for Development (R4D), Ms. Gessel is a senior program associate on the Governance Action Hub and Frequent Assessments and Systems Tools for Resilience (FASTR) initiative teams. In this role, she assists in country engagement and provides program and operational support.

Previously, Ms. Gessel has supported the Strategic Purchasing Africa Resource Centre (SPARC), the Joint Learning Network (JLN) Foundational Reforms for Financing and Service Delivery of PHC Collaborative, the Africa LEEPS Partnership, the Health Systems Strengthening Accelerator, the Primary Health Care Performance Initiative (PHCPI) and R4D’s Frontier Health Market (FHM) Engage team.

During her time at R4D, Ms. Gessel has contributed to the development of key resources such as the Applying the Strategic Health Purchasing Progress Tracking Framework Toolkit.

Ms. Gessel holds a BS in public health with an emphasis in environmental/occupational health and a minor in international development from Brigham Young University.
