Dr. Viviana Mangiaterra is an international public health specialist with expertise in reproductive, maternal, child and adolescent health (RMNCAH) and health systems strengthening (HSS). She has extensive experience in policy and strategy development, implementation and evaluation of RMNCAH programs, HSS programming and integration of disease programs into primary care platforms. Dr. Mangiaterra works with the HSS Accelerator project in West Africa for R4D.
Dr. Mangiaterra worked for more than 20 years for the World Health Organization (WHO) at all levels—national (Rwanda and Indonesia) regional (European Region) and the WHO headquarters. She worked at the World Bank as Advisor for Children and Youth from 2002 to 2007. From 2014 to 2019 she led RMNCH/HSS efforts at the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. Dr. Mangiaterra is currently associate professor of practice at the SDA Bocconi University in Milan, Italy in the division of government, health and not-for-profit.
Dr. Mangiaterra has authored more than 70 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters and essays on various topics related to RMNCAH and HSS. She holds a medical degree with PhD-level training in pediatrics and epidemiology. She is fluent in Italian, English, French and Spanish.
