Dr. Wossen Negash is a public health professional with many years of experience in maternal, child and adolescent health and nutrition working with government agencies and international organizations. His background is in project management, sustainable nutrition financing, nutrition data value chain, formative research, nutrition and SBCC strategy formulation; developing guidelines, training modules and SBC material development.
Dr. Negash is associate director of the nutrition practice at Results for Development (R4D) where he leads all nutrition related activities in Ethiopia including integration of wasting into the routine health care systems in Ethiopia, Sustainable Financing and DetaDENT projects. He also advises project strategy development, providing technical guidance, and executing work plans and project deliverables. He provides leadership and technical expertise to the nutrition team and across R4D. He also supports the Ethiopia country office in new business development.
Prior to R4D, Dr. Negash worked at Save the Children International’s Growth through Nutrition Activity project where he managed the SBCC component of the project and the scaling up of nutrition through LNGO partners in Ethiopia. At UNICEF Ethiopia, he was the communication for development officer for the Enhanced Outreach Strategy/Targeted Supplementary Feeding program. Prior to UNICEF, he worked with Helvetas Ethiopia and CRS Ethiopia. He is also a member of Ethiopian Nutrition Leaders Network.
Dr. Negash holds a PhD in health studies from the University of South Africa. He earned a master’s in public health from the University of Gondar. He also has a master’s in education and a BSc in biology from Addis Ababa University. He is a native speaker of Amharic and speaks fluent English.
