Yohannes Addisu

Yohannes Addisu is a market shaping and supply chain expert with nearly 12 years of experience in governmental and non-governmental organizations. He has led multiple market barrier analyses and market shaping capacity building interventions in partnership with Ethiopia’s Ministry of Health, the Ethiopian Pharmaceutical Supply Services (EPSS) and the Ethiopian Food and Drug Agency (EFDA).

At Results for Development (R4D), Mr. Addisu is a senior market shaping specialist co-leading the Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) and Family Planning (FP) procurement and financing project. He plays a key role in the national Reproductive Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (RMNCH) technical working group where solutions for addressing challenges related to financing, procurement and other supply management operations are discussed. He led the development of various strategic frameworks and SOPs to improve EPSS’s internal use for managing the RMNCH commodities forecasting and supply planning. In collaboration with EPSS’s team, he also facilitated the co-creation process to develop the EPSS’s sourcing strategy that provides strategic guidance for implementing a category management system for pharmaceuticals procurement, and for the revision of the EPSS’s procurement framework directive.

Under the leadership of pharmaceuticals and medical equipment directorates (PMED) of the ministry, Mr. Addisu was actively involved in the system design, curricula development and subsequent implementations of the pharmacy mentoring program in Ethiopia and has also contributed to the ongoing effort to include integrated pharmaceuticals logistics system (IPLS) into the continuous professional development (CPD) program.

Prior to R4D, Yohannes worked for Chemonics International Inc., Amhara Regional Health Bureau, JSI/AIDSFree project and EPSS where he led and implemented various supply chain and programmatic activities. During his tenure at EPSS Bahir Dar Hub, he was primarily responsible for the supply management of HIV and RMNCH commodities.

Mr. Addisu holds an MA in logistics and supply chain management, a BA in business management from Bahir Dar University in 2017 and a bachelor of pharmacy from Addis Ababa University in 2010. He speaks Amharic and English.
